About us
At Medivet Borehamwood, our team is growing, and we are looking for an experienced veterinary surgeon ready to step into a role with genuine clinical influence.
This is a leadership opportunity in a small animal practice with the added strength of close collaboration with Medivet Watford 24, our well-established 24-hour sister hospital. That connection gives you and your team clinical reassurance when cases need enhanced diagnostics, advanced surgical input, out-of-hours care, or inpatient support.

Professional, friendly and caring staff. My 20yr old cat was very well looked after and plenty of good advice given on her treatment. Satisfied and would recommend this practice – Janet J – Google Review
About this role
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will help shape the clinical direction, standards, and culture of the practice while continuing to enjoy hands-on clinical work.
Your role will include consultations, diagnostics, surgery, case planning, clinical handovers, and patient care across a varied small animal caseload. You will support the veterinary and nursing teams, mentor colleagues, contribute to clinical meetings, and help create a positive, progressive environment where people feel supported to keep improving.
You will work closely with the Partners and Practice Manager, balancing clinical quality with the practical leadership needed to help the practice run smoothly and sustainably. That includes supporting strong client communication, clear treatment planning, accurate clinical records, and responsible practice performance.
For the right person, this is a role with scope to make a visible difference, clinically, commercially, and culturally.
About you
You are an experienced small animal vet who enjoys leading from within the team, not from a distance. You bring calm judgement, strong communication, and the confidence to support others while still developing your own clinical and leadership style.
You will bring:
- A collaborative, supportive approach to veterinary leadership
- A genuine interest in mentoring vets, including graduate colleagues
- Strong client communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence with consultations, diagnostics, surgery, and medical case management
- A commitment to high clinical standards, patient safety, and careful handovers
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of how good clinical systems support a healthy practice
- Significant experience in small animal practice
- RCVS registration and eligibility to work in the UK
Our location
Borehamwood offers a practical Hertfordshire base with the benefit of local community life and good access to the wider region. For veterinary professionals who want a leadership role without losing the sense of working in a connected, approachable local practice, it is a strong setting.
You will have the day-to-day rhythm of a community clinic, the support of a nearby 24-hour hospital, and the wider lifestyle choice that comes with being based in Hertfordshire, within reach of both London and the surrounding county.
Our offer
This full-time Lead Veterinary Surgeon role offers the opportunity to lead and shape a growing practice, supported by an experienced wider network and a 24-hour sister hospital nearby.
You will benefit from:
- Close collaboration with Medivet Watford 24
- Access to advanced diagnostics and clinical support through the sister hospital network
- Onsite digital xray, dental xray, and ultrasound
- Career progression and leadership development opportunities
- A supportive, collaborative working culture
- Competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package
Remuneration will be discussed openly and aligned with your experience, leadership capability, and the value you bring to the practice.
