About us
At Special Friends Animal Medical Centre, small-animal general practice still feels personal. Based in Batchley, Redditch, we have been supporting pets and their people across the West Midlands and South Birmingham since 2000, with a clear commitment to professional, individual care and continuity wherever possible.
We are a 100% small-animal, RCVS PSS registered practice with a small, familiar team and a culture built around contribution, respect and shared support. Our team includes 4 FTE vets, 6 RVNs, 4 receptionists and a Practice Manager, creating a steady clinical environment where everyone plays their part and the day feels collaborative rather than isolated.
You will also have the reassurance of a wider local network of colleagues across nearby practices, plus the learning resources and specialist access that come with being part of VetPartners.
I travel from Bromsgrove to this wonderful vets and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. They care so much about the animals, and the people, and the prices are so competitive. I have never felt pressured into spending more than I can afford, unlike other vets, they have given me the options and left me to decide without pressure – Rachel B – Google Review
About this role
This is a permanent Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon role, with 30 to 37 hours per week across a 4-day rota, plus 1:4 Saturday mornings from 9am to 2pm. There are no OOH and no bank holidays, giving you a working pattern that is genuinely sustainable.
Your role will include a varied mix of consultations and surgical procedures, with the clinical freedom to work up your own cases and make thoughtful decisions for your patients. There will be some sole-charge shifts, so this role will suit a vet who is comfortable in general practice and enjoys a balanced combination of autonomy and team support.
You will also have the opportunity to support and mentor vet students when they are on site, contributing to a learning-focused environment where development is encouraged and shared.
About you
You will fit well with us if you enjoy being part of a relaxed yet professional team, where clinical standards matter and people look after each other.
You are likely to be:
- Friendly, supportive and team-focused in the way you work
- Comfortable communicating clearly with clients and colleagues
- Confident with a balance of consults, surgery and occasional sole charge
- Interested in contributing to a positive, cohesive practice culture
- Experienced in small-animal general practice
- RCVS registered
