About us
At Peninsula Bay, you’ll become part of a close-knit clinic where clients value the personal, long-term relationships they build with their clinic. Our sunny clinic offers varied, interesting general practice work, supported by an experienced and enthusiastic nursing team who take pride in delivering excellent patient care. You’ll have the clinical autonomy to practise your way, while knowing advice, collaboration and practical support are always available from nearby VHG clinics and our wider leadership team. Add flexible rosters and a beautiful coastal location, and it’s a pretty special place to build a career—and a life.
Peninsula Bay Veterinary Hospital are proof that if you support local business’s, they’ll support you. Deb and her team are incredible! They’ve helped us so many times, always went above and beyond and kept us sane when we stressed out. I can’t thank them enough! Shout out to Mikayla who is a rock! Though I think my dog loves her more than me😔 – Google Review – Anthony
About this role
You’ll take responsibility for a varied companion animal caseload, including consultations, diagnostic workups, preventative healthcare, routine surgery and dentistry. Some sole-charge work is required, so you’ll need to be confident making clinical decisions and managing cases independently. However, you won’t be working in isolation—advice, collaboration and practical support are readily available through our nearby clinics, Clinical Directors and the wider VHG veterinary team.
We’re looking for:
- A CA vet with some experience who has sound clinical judgement and a commitment to practising a high standard of medicine
- Strong communication skills and an ability to build trusted, long-term client relationships
- Someone who enjoys becoming part of a local community and getting to know its people and pets
- A collaborative, team-focused approach
- A willingness to ask for advice and draw on the experience of the wider VHG team when helpful
- Current or eligible registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand
About you
We’re looking for someone who is approachable and genuinely enjoys being part of a team and local community. You’ll communicate openly, treat clients and colleagues with respect, and be willing to listen, collaborate and grow alongside those around you. You’ll bring a positive, practical attitude, take responsibility for your contribution and support others when needed. Most importantly, you’ll care about creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work and where every client and patient receives thoughtful, personalised care.
Our location
Imagine finishing your shift and being at the beach within minutes—walking the dog along the sand, heading out for a swim or paddleboard, or exploring the coastal tracks and native wildlife at nearby Shakespear Regional Park. Life on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula has a relaxed, community feel, with beautiful beaches, boating, fishing, cafés and outdoor activities all close to home. Auckland’s city centre is still within easy reach when you want it, while housing can offer better value than many of the city’s central suburbs. It’s a location that makes it easier to create the kind of lifestyle New Zealand is famous for, without giving up the opportunities and amenities of Auckland.
Our offer
We want to create a role that works for you, with a package that recognises your experience, responsibilities and the value you bring to the clinic. Our offer includes:
- Excellent remuneration reflecting your experience and confidence with sole-charge work
- A genuinely flexible roster, with full-time or part-time hours and working days open to discussion
- No after-hours or on-call work
- A generous CPD allowance and study leave with access to our Advanced Practitioner Pathway, including additional funding and time to develop an area of clinical interest
- Established and comprehensive internal CPD program including regular rounds, wetlabs and an annual symposium and Christmas party
- Support with Veterinary Council registration, visas and relocation where appropriate
- The lifestyle benefits of working on the beautiful Whangaparāoa Peninsula, close to beaches, coastal walks and outdoor activities
Most importantly, we are open to hearing what matters to you. Tell us what you are looking for, and we will work with you to design a position and remuneration package that supports your career and life outside work.
