About this role

This is a part-time night position within our growing medicine and emergency team. You will take sole clinical charge from 7pm to 9am on a four-nights-on, twenty-nights-off rota, averaging 16.38 hours per week, with a full ward handover to support clear decisions and continuity of care.

Your caseload will draw from our branches and subscribing practices, combining emergency presentations with the care of hospitalised medical patients and exotic inpatients. You will work alongside a highly experienced night nurse and an animal nursing assistant, while two dedicated hospital vets and the wider day team manage the daytime medical caseload and provide a structured handover.

The role gives you meaningful autonomy without leaving you clinically isolated. There is room to deepen your emergency and critical care experience, and additional shifts may be available to cover holidays if you would like them.

About you

You will thrive here if you are calm, approachable and able to communicate clearly when the hospital is busy and decisions matter. You will enjoy working collaboratively with skilled nursing colleagues while being comfortable carrying clinical responsibility through the night.

You will also bring:

• Experience as a veterinary surgeon

Our location

Brighton offers an unusual balance of city life, coast and open countryside. The hospital is within walking distance of the city and seafront, while the South Downs National Park is close enough for walking, cycling and time outdoors between rotations.

London is around an hour away by train, and frequent services connect Brighton with Gatwick Airport in approximately 26 minutes. Whether your time off is best spent by the sea, exploring independent restaurants and cultural venues or heading into the Downs, the four-on, twenty-off rota gives you genuine space to enjoy it.

Our offer

The salary is £32,500 to £35,850, based on an average of 16.38 hours per week.

The rota is four nights on and twenty nights off, with shifts from 7pm to 9am. Additional holiday-cover shifts may also be available.
